1950s Fashion

1950s fashion is timeless and can still be worked into your wardrobe today.

The A-line dress style that was popular then is still as flattering on women now as it was back then.  With its fit and flare dress shape, women are given a cinched in, tinier waist and the attractive hourglass figure that is glamorous on everyone.

Below we have some examples of some of the 1950's style dresses we carry at Crowntheshop.com

Here we have our Coastal Cruising Dress, $52, that has the cinched in waist that was so popular in the 1950s.  Its fun, retro print sets off this simple but flattering dress.

Here is our Petals of Peonies Dress, $58, that is a classic 1950's style frock.  This dress would be adorable with a favorite pair of wedges or pumps for a dressier evening or with flats and a cardigan for a very Zooey Deschanel style.

Another type of dress that was popular in the 1950s was the classic shirt dress.  We have an updated version here, our Vintage Find Shirt Dress, $52.  This type of dress is very casual and was perfect for a day of errands or chores.  While this style is a bit less dressy than the example before, you can get a vintage style or Zooey Deschanel style pairing this with simple solid flats, a leather satchel, and a favorite cardigan.

For a dressier night out, short frocks look adorable with a lower kitten heel pump.  Our 1950's style dress Haight Street Halter has a pinup dress look of the 1950s and our Finistere Filligree Dress has a dressier pattern with the hourglass shape that was so popular in the 1950s.

Last but not least, this type of dress with an illusion neckline, was a popular style for a night of dancing.  The fit and flare skirts are perfect for twirling.  Put these with low kitten heels, your favorite cardigan (maybe one that with a little bit of sparkle) or pea coat and you are ready to go.

Below we have our West Coast Twirl Dress, $52 and Drinks on the Terrace Dress, $52.

We hope this gives you more of an idea of how to dress in 1950's style.  These dresses are truly timeless and their flattering shapes are likely to always be in style.
